Inspiration, Design & Creation
A lot of things inspire me when I am designing cakes but recently, my inspiration for Elisabeth and Phil's beautiful cake
came from Elisabeth's Alfred Angelo wedding gown.
When I first saw it I immediately reached for my sketch pad and pencil and started drawing; then when Elisabeth arrived for
her consultation and loved the design, I was thrilled.
We bounced around the idea of flowers on the top tier for some time but a trip out for Elisabeth saw her find some beautiful monogram cake toppers from ivoryandcotiaras.co.uk. These completed the simple and elegant look of her cake beautifully.

Elisabeth's dress was an Alfred Angelo design in Ivory satin with silver detailing. I just loved the way this dress was sectioned, yet it all flowed into one simply stunning and elegant
design which, I personally feel is enhanced even more by Elisabeth who has made
an already stunning gown look totally amazing!

I broke down each section of
the dress into tiers.
The top tier indicitive of the embroidery on the bodice which was piped in royal icing,
the middle tier encircled with the sash on the dropped waist
and the bottom tier again picked out the embroidery that flowed from the point of the sash.
An extra board was placed between the tiers to make each one appear to be floating.

Here you can see the details on each tier, I adore the way the 'floating' tiers give a whole new depth to the cake than if it was stacked normally.
The centre of the flowers and other aspects of the design were highlighted with silver. This was in keeping with Elisabeth's dress but not too much as to lose the delicate balance of the design.

A closer look at the brush embroidery technique used in conjunction with the royal iced piped detail. It is a beautiful technique which softens and enhances the already delicate design.
