frequtly asked questions

I'd like some fresh flowers on my cake is this feasible?

I don’t use fresh flowers because of the uncertainty of what chemicals are on them. A lot of flower growers use chemicals and pesticides to prolong the life of the flowers. I cannot deny that they look very pretty, however, would you really want to eat a piece of cake that has come into contact with pesticides?
I wouldn’t and that is why I only offer sugar flowers which can look every bit as beautiful as the real thing. They can also be kept as a keepsake which makes them the preferable alternative for many of my customers.

Can I sample your cake?

Cake samples are only offered to couples who book and attend a consultation. Should you book a free private consultation and fail to show, your next consultation will incur a charge to cover the cost of the cake sample.
I am currently looking into the feasibility of offering cake samples for a small fee, by Royal Mail. Please check back for updates on that.

I need a cake for tomorrow, just a simple sponge will do, can you help me?

Unfortunately, I'm afraid not. Every single cake I bake is baked fresh to order and unlike all supermarkets, I can’t just take one off the shelf for you.
A lot of planning goes into each and every cake I make; I need to make sure I have the right size board and box for the cake you require. That I have enough ribbon, or wires for flowers etc and I need to go and buy the ingredients so that they are as fresh as possible. I do not keep cakes frozen on standby because to me, this does not constitute a ‘fresh baked’ cake. If you are wanting a model or sugarflowers on the cake these can take several weeks to make. So you see, to the professional cake maker, no sponge cake is ever ‘simple’.

I have my own cake, can you decorate it for me?

Whilst I am sure the cake Great Aunty Sue baked is quite delicious, I cannot guarantee to you or your guests what it contains or prove where the ingredients were sourced. Should any problems arise from the cake, it could pose a risk to my reputation and also that of my business. Therefore, I am sorry but I do not decorate anyone else's cakes but my own.

Can you make a cake of my childs favourite cartoon character?

Unlike supermarkets which produce these style of cakes in mass quantities, I simply cannot afford to apply for the rights to make these cakes. Although there are cake decorators out there that are willing to take the risk and make these type of cakes, I'm afraid due to copyright laws, I cannot recreate and sell any cakes depicting cartoon characters, football teams, designer handbag and shoes, computer games or consoles etc. I can however create other cakes for your childs birthday from bears to trains to castles and princesses, the list is not exhaustive!

How big are your cakes?
When decorated, all of my cakes, sponge and fruit are a minimum depth of 3", this often beats most shop brands by a whole inch... they say size isn't everything but when it comes to cake......!!
